It's Christmas holidays but a call to camp is strong with a break from the house.

A quick dash out the house when the days were still short led for a long time in a tent atop a hill - a welcome break. The siimple pleasure of cooking food and listening to some radio. I bulked up for extra warmth with a quilt to top my sleeping bag and a hot water bottle - could have done with just a dash more fuel to get it piping hot but alas I was never cold.

This was an autumn treat. Scotland was covered in clouds for three days, everywhere but the mountain tops, leaving us with clear skies and cloud inversions.

Bruce and I spent three days walking in sunshine with zero winds capturing six Munros - a needed break.

Bruce and I had to delay this trip due to a storm but the week made all the difference. We found ourselves not with a typical Scottish Autumn but what instead represented a fine Summer day. This however, was only for those on the hills, for as you looked to horizons, the lowlands were covered in cloud.

I had taken my @X Mid Pro 1 for it's first real run and took my winter bag ( @Pipedream 600 )for comfort which was apt, as Bruce found himself boiling some water to keep his feet cold through the night.

Both Bruce and I likely carried too much water leading to heavier packs but not knowing water sources led us to take etc. This would have been our big saving, otherwise, light gear and plenty of food to indulge in.

One night camp in the Trossachs with three friends, catching up besides a loch and a camp fire.

The car was parked just a minute away so weight was not an issue, so I enjoyed a proper pillow that night as I tried out my new tent.

A midweek hike and camp up the Pentlands after work with clear sunset and sunrise. I also got to try out my new stove, the Featherlight 700.

The herring road is a historic route that was used to transport herring from Dunbar to Lauder.

A friend and I set off from a sunny Dunbar harbour, where we walked along farm roads until we reached the hills. We camped a little while after Whiteadder Reservoir by a river.

Ventured up the Pentlands for the night, wading through deep snow to find my peak to camp.

Although it didn't snow further, the winds were strong and battered the tent through the night with snow pushed through the inner.
